GrapeApostelhoeve Late Harvest Pinot Gris was made in 2018 from grapes harvested very late! 2018 was an incredible year, with temperatures well above the average. This resulted in extremely high sugar levels in the grapes. It quickly became clear that it was even possible to harvest a Late Harvest wine, which requires the grapes to reach a minimum of 116° Oechsle. Due to the dry weather and eastern winds, the sugar content continued to rise. Ultimately, we harvested the grapes for the Late Harvest at 138° Oechsle. The health of the harvested grapes was extraordinary, as not a single rotten grape was found—something that is usually necessary to achieve such high sugar levels. In the end, we were able to produce 1,000 liters of this wine. It is a unique wine, which is why we offer it in smaller 0.375L bottles. |
Taste and FoodpairingThis Late Harvest Pinot Gris is a luscious and complex wine with rich notes of honey, ripe stone fruits, and a subtle hint of spice. The high sugar content gives it a velvety sweetness balanced by a refreshing acidity, creating a harmonious and smooth finish. Serving suggestion: |
