Harvest 2023
We are currently busy filtering our wines so that we can start bottling them starting 18 March next!
As you know, we are expecting to serve all our customers better this year, partly because we had 4 hectares more in production than last year. And on the other due to an abundant harvest that vintage 2023 gave us. Which was more than welcome after several small harvests.
2023 was a year like we are going to get more often, according to climate experts. So warmer, drier, more extreme.
The year began rather normally followed by a dry and warm period that started in April and continued until early July. This resulted in fantastic flowering weather with optima forma for this period! Very good fruit setting was a fact followed by rapid development, by the end of June real bunches of grapes could already be seen that were very compact. Never before had so many grapes been counted on a single bunch which was already a harbinger of the big harvest. Several times we had to adjust our harvest prognosis upwards. So you see that after 50 years you can still be surprised.
July started a wet period that continued into August. We feared fruit rot with all the rainfall but fortunately we were spared this. An old saying in German viticulture goes: imagine rain in August, it rains good wine. We can now agree to this.
